I really love making things for my home, and a patriotic rag wreath for the front door is just about one of the easiest crafts to complete!
You can make this beautiful wreath is just a couple of hours, making this a great craft for a weekend afternoon.
It’s so simple, your kids can even make one!
Ready to get started? Here’s what you’ll need:
- A wire wreath form (I got mine from Dollar Tree)
- Red, White, and Blue fabric (I found mine at WalMart – each 2 yard piece was under $8)
- Good scissors OR
- a rotary cutter AND
- a self healing mat (this set below is a great value)
You’re going to start by cutting your fabric into 2” wide strips, that are about 7”-8” long. I cut mine to about 7” in length. The awesome thing about rag wreaths is that you don’t have to be super precise. You can come close, and it’s good enough!
Honestly, cutting the fabric is probably the hardest part of making this wreath. The rest is pretty simple!
To make this wreath you’re going to alternate each section of the wreath form with a different color. The top left is going to be all blue. You will then alternate each remaining section with either red or white! Simple!
Here’s how you fold the fabric on the wreath form:
Once you have the knot down, the wreath goes pretty fast. I used about 28 pieces of fabric for each section of wreath. If you wreath form is bigger than mine, you will obviously need more fabric. 😉
Here’s my blue section, all complete:
For my wreath, I used 3 red sections, and 2 white sections.
I had plenty of fabric left over, and could easily have made a second wreath. You could put one on your front door and one on the back, or you could gift one to a neighbor or friend!
Once you know how to make a rag wreath, there is no limit to the styles you can come up with! And making your own is always a money saver!
Are you ready to make your own patriotic rag wreath?
