Hamburger buns at home
If you are looking for a recipe to make homemade hamburger buns, look no further!
My family loves these rolls, and they’re perfect for hamburgers and sandwiches alike!
Why should you make your own bread, if you can?
When my husband and I first starter our journey toward better ingredients, one of the first things we stopped buying was High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS).
Y’all…there is HFCS in just about everything in the grocery store, including bread. It was very discouraging, to say the least.
Now, there are definitely lots of HFCS-free items available in the store today, including hamburger buns, but you really have to look at the ingredients!
If you really want to control what your family is eating, then you should definitely try to bake your own breads. Hands-on time is really minimal, and the flavor beats store-bought bread every single time!
Helpful tools for making your own bread at home
You can definitely make your own bread at home without any fancy equipment. But the fancy stuff sure does make the process faster and easier!
A great stand mixer will make baking breads and cookies so much easier! I have owned a KitchenAid mixer for over 18 years, and it has a permanent home on my kitchen counter because I use it so much!
From breads to homemade mayonnaise, this machine is a kitchen workhorse!
If this isn’t in your budget today, no worries! You can definitely use your monthly budget to start saving up for one! Or ask your parents to buy you one for Christmas or your birthday! Totally worth every penny!
The only other special “equipment” I have for baking rolls and cookies are my AirBake pans.
If you are tired of trying to get baked goods that are evenly cooked, where the bottom doesn’t burn before the top is golden brown, then you need to get yourself at least 1 AirBake pan.
I actually own 3 of these, which is so awesome when it comes time to bake at the holidays!
The magic is in the double layers of the pan. The air in the middle of the two layers of aluminum prevents burning! I never knew cookies could bake up so amazing until I bought these pans. In fact, I think they’re one of the reasons everyone always loves my cookies!
Now that we have the special tools out of the way, let’s get down to the recipe for homemade hamburger buns, shall we?
Making these rolls is really very simple. You’ll need:
- All purpose flour
- refined coconut oil
Start by adding all of those ingredients to your KitchenAid mixer bowl. Seriously….measure them out and throw them all in the mixer bowl. It doesn’t really matter what order they’re in!
Throw your dough hook on the mixer, turn it on “2”, and let it do it’s thing for 8 minutes. Set your timer because those 8 minutes will go by faster than you think!
Once your timer goes off, take the dough hook out, and cover the bowl with a towel. It’s time to let that dough rest and rise! Leave it like that for about 90 minutes or so, until it doubles in size.
If you’re like me, that 90 minutes is time to get the kitchen back in shape, fold a load of laundry, and sweep the kitchen floor! Maybe you get some outdoor time in there, as well, if you’re lucky!
Once the dough is doubled in size, it’s time to turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Your kitchen counter will work, or I like to use a large wooden cutting board.
Next, you’re going to divide the dough into small pieces. I find that I can get 18 rolls out of this dough, by cutting the ball in 1/2, and then slicing each half into 9 roughly equal pieces.
Gently shape each slice into a ball, and then flatten the ball into a roll shape!
Place 9 rolls onto each of 2 AirBake pans, lined with parchment paper if you like. The parchment isn’t necessary, but it sure does make taking the rolls off the pan super easy!
Bake in the oven (425º F) for 10 minutes!
You now have some of the most delicious homemade hamburger buns you will ever eat! Just slice the bun in half, throw your favorite burger toppings on and enjoy!
