My husband and I have been following a Ketogenic Diet since the end of January, so I’m always looking for a different recipe to try.
We really enjoy chicken wings as a family, and usually I make hot wings. But every now and then, I look for a different flavor profile to change things up.
Enter these Keto Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings!
In the summer, especially, citrus flavors abound. They are light and refreshing, and tend to go well with salads and such for sides.
As with any recipe, quality ingredients can make or break the flavor profile of your dish. For instance, you could use lemon juice from a jar, but I much prefer the flavor of fresh squeezed lemon juice!
It’s super helpful to have a handheld citrus juicer in your kitchen utensil arsenal. It makes adding fresh lemon and lime juice to your recipes very easy (and easy means you’re more likely to do it!). I really love this one:
If you’ve never used lemon zest before, this might seem a little intimidating. But zesting a lemon is really easy!
You’ll need some type of grater for the job. I use the smallest side of. a box grater like this:
To zest the lemon, simply grate the yellow outside of the lemon across the smallest side of the box grater, being careful not to grate into the white layer below.
It really helps to have stiff toothbrush in your kitchen for getting the remaining zest out of the grater! One like this is super helpful to have:

Here’s the recipe!
Keto Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings
- 2.5 lbs chicken wings
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 lemons, zested
- 2 lemons, juiced
- 1 tbsp ground pepper
- 1 stick butter, melted
- Preheat oven to 400º F.
- Place frozen chicken wings on a pan in an even layer.
- Cook wings for 40 minutes, or until cooked through and a little crispy skinned.
- Melt the butter on the stovetop (or in the microwave)
- Add lemon juice, lemon zest, and pepper to the melted butter.
- When the chicken wings are fully cooked, place them in a bowl and cover with the melted lemon butter sauce!
